November 22, 1887

Hygeco was established in Saint-Ouen, near Paris, by Louis Marette. The company’s initial business was disinfecting mattresses for hospitals. Very rapidly, additional branches became necessary.

1946

Hygeco took its first steps in extending body conservation by using dry ice.

1960

Jacques Marette, the founder's grandson, left for England and America to expand on the modern procedure for body conservation—embalming!

1963

Jacques Marette created the Institut Français de Thanatopraxie, the French Embalming Institute. The institute provided specialized training and promoted public awareness. Requests for embalming grew significantly in France.

1976

New French legislation regulating embalming procedures. During this period, over 70% of French people chose this solution, and Hygeco prepared tens of thousands of bodies every year.

 
 

1978

The company name changed to Hygeco International and significantly extended its services to the entire world. It began manufacturing and delivering articles for funeral homes, hospitals, and morgues.

2008

Hygeco acquires a production facility in Germany and a knowledge center for morgues, hospitals and laboratories.

2011

The Post Mortem Assistance service was reorganized to continuously optimize the service provided in France. Indeed, France was divided into regions, providing 24/7 service throughout the year.

 

2016

International product sales represented almost 70% of revenue.

2017

Abénex and Hygeco International’s directors created a partnership to buy out shares from the Dutch group De Facultatieve, supporting them through a new development stage of business in France and abroad.

Ministry of Health - Saudi Arabia

Post-mortem hospital equipment - 2017
In partnership with the Bassam Trading Company, the historic Saudi partner, Hygeco provided new equipment to 34 hospital morgues throughout the country. Over one hundred cold rooms and just as many fork-lifts manufactured, delivered, and installed in six months.

Makkah Disaster center - 2016
Saudi authorities wished to install a catastrophe room at the Mecca two months before the annual pilgrimage and called upon Hygeco’s and their local partner's expertise to build a room with a capacity to hold 800 people. The room was delivered successfully and inaugurated a few days before the Hajj rituals began.

Forensics Center in Orenburg, Russia

Forensic equipment - 2011
Hygeco International supplied the equipment to one of the main forensic centers in the country. This project, designed for 200 slots, included the supply of state-of-the-art autopsy and macroscopy tables.

Medical University in Caen, France

Anatomy laboratory equipment 2014
For the construction of the new medical university, Hygeco supplied the equipment for the anatomy laboratory including about 50 freezing units (-25°C) and a dozen dissection tables.

Crematorium in Le Havre, France

2017
For this important crematorium project, Hygeco supplied and installed customized refrigeration units for the burial chamber as well as all the laboratory equipment.
