As a company with a long tradition in its four core businesses – funeral services, the trade of funeral products, the supply of equipment for undertakers and the realisation of tailor-made medical solutions – the HYGECO Group is today the worldwide one-stop-shop for made-to-measure post-mortem solutions.
For more than a century, HYGECO has been the point of reference for professionals in the funeral sector.
Relying on its know-how and being a pioneer in the field of embalming, HYGECO offers a wide range of innovative, tailor-made solutions and products to equip a funeral complex or medical facility by providing all the required equipment and products to ensure optimal functioning.
The satisfaction of our customers is our priority. Thus, we make sure to apply the highest quality standards to the products and services we offer.
Hygeco was founded in 1887 in Saint-Ouen, near Paris, by Louis Marette. The company’s initial business was the disinfection of mattresses for hospitals. Very quickly, the needs in terms of funeral equipment led him to open new branches.
Hygeco took its first steps in extending body conservation by using dry ice.
Jacques Marette (the founder’s grandson) founded the French Embalming Academy. The academy provides specialised training and information for the public. Consequently, the demand for embalming is increasing strongly in France.
The company becomes “HYGECO” and considerably expands its activities, particularly at an international level. It also marks the beginning of the delivery and manufacture of products for undertakers, hospitals and mortuaries.
In 2008, Funeralia® GmbH becomes a subsidiary of Hygeco Group, which thus complements its long-standing experience in the funeral sector with a modern production facility and a competence centre in the medical field. The union of the two brands Hygeco and Funeralia® under the Hygeco Group creates valuable synergy and has offered clients in the funeral and medical sector complete integrated solutions ever since.
Abénex and HYGECO International’s directors created a partnership to buy out shares from the Dutch group De Facultatieve, and supporting them through a new development stage of business in France and abroad.
HYGECO Group is strengthening its position as European leader in its market, pursuing its international development with a presence in 133 countries and accelerating its digitalisation to get closer to its customers and partners in the context of a sanitary crisis that limits traveling.
Today, the HYGECO group remains a trusted partner and leader in its field of activity, offering a wide range of services, products and solutions for both the funeral and the medical sector. Its two production units, in France and Germany, allow the design, manufacture and installation of tailor-made, post-mortem equipment for mortuary and funeral chambers, forensic medicine institutes, human and veterinary anatomy laboratories as well as research centres.
